St. George Parade of Homes

So Lisa and I took the kids to the St. George parade of homes. There were some incredible homes. We just wanted to pack up our things and move down to St. George. We stayed in a time share that Lisa's uncle hooked us up with. The weather was nice, so the kids were able to swim a little. Chelsea came with us to babysit a bit while we looked at homes. We just love the back yards in St. George and hope that someday we can build a pool in our back yard.

Eric Jackson - Fitness Ridge

Lisa and I took the kids down to St. George for Presidents day weekend. St. George holds their annual parade of homes during that weekend and we love to go see the incredible homes. During the weekend we were able to visit Eric and see the business he now works at. He is heading up the marketing department at Fitness Ridge Resort and Spa. It looks like a place I'd like to stay at. It was nice to see Eric. I miss him at CirclePix but Fitness Ridge looks like a great opportunity and I am happy for him. As we were talking about the business, my mind just started thinking of all the ways I would market their business. I love that kind of stuff.

Petting the sharks

Sean and I went scuba diving at the Bonneville Seabase on Saturday. We had a great time. The location is between Salt Lake and Wendover. They have these natural salt water springs with temperatures around 70 degrees. There were a bunch of salt water fish and a couple of Nurse Sharks. The shark in the clip below was about 8 feet. We were able to pet the sharks and just admire their beauty. It was really amazing. We dove for about 2 hours. Just getting ready for Hawaii!

30 day sex challenge

Lisa and I are on our second day of this 30 day challenge. I will let you know how far we get, but so far I really like this challenge. In fact, I'm thinking I might change religions.

Cidade de Goa

On Saturday the 9th we flew to Goa and stayed at a beautiful resort called the Cidade de Goa. The picture above was taken right out on our room balcony. We swam in the Indian Ocean and kicked back by the pool. It was a nice break. The Cidade welcomed us with puca shell necklaces.

We enjoyed the nice weather and read books infront of the Indian Ocean.

We had dinner at this cute restaurant that looked like a small town in Italy. They had a musical trio that was really good. They knew every song in the book. We got a kick out of seeing three Indians that looked like Mexicans singing the American classic Hotel California.

Adam and I had a good time playing pool and a game of scrabble.
There is nothing like eating grilled cheese sandwiches and playing Phase 10 while overlooking the ocean. A very handsome couple had just been married. It was a traditional wedding and I had to snap a picture.

Last dinner with the crew

We had an incredible dinner with the team. We ate at the Kabob Factory. It was a little cold outside but we had a great time. It was fun getting to know the team on a more personal level. I would have liked to hang out with them after hours a little more. At the Kabob Factory they just keep bringing food. There were 9 different kabobs, lentils, rice, flat bread, and dessert. We just started laughing there was so much food. It was one of the best places we ate. They brought out hot water for us to wash our hands in. Very fancy. When we were leaving there was a craftsman making bangles. I had to get some for the girls. We had a great time.

Church in Goa

Today we woke up and went to church in Goa. It was a really great experience. It brought back memories of my mission. It was a small branch with about 20-25 members. There were 4 missionaries, 3 from the states and 1 from India. I was excited to see them. We hopped in a cab, gave the driver a crazy address and asked if he new where the church was. Of course he said yes, even though he had no idea. With a few prayers and some asking around we found the branch. We all felt the spirit and had a good time. They just meet in a small house. During the songs they played a CD to lead the music. Two youth spoke for the first time and did a great job. They talked on the Word of Wisdom and Chastity. After sacrament I wanted everyone to come out for a picture but that didn't happen. So I took a couple of shots and we took off. I'm glad we made it. The missionaries said that Goa is predominantly Christian. They said the work was going well.
This was one of the youth speakers.

The Royal Orchid Suites

This is the hotel that we have stayed in for the last ten days. It is nice place that is within walking distance from Cybage. They have a nice restaurant and gym in the hotel. The people are very helpful. And as you can see Adam and Bryce made me keep the place spotless.

Click here to see a video tour of the hotel.

Pataleshwar Caves

Last Saturday one of the sights that we visited were the Pataleshwar Caves. Below is a small clip of our journey.

Subway Sandwich - blahhhh

We had to try out Subway while we were here and from the look on the three faces below it wasn't that great. Probably because we didn't have any vegies on our sub. So unless you are going to risk the vegies, I'd say it is a thumbs down on Subway.

Bryce is very happy to be here. Amazingly he is not homesick at all. He has a smile on his face all day long.

Anyone up for a shave?

Yesterday morning we decided to walk to work. On our way, on the side of the road, this man was selling close shaves with a straight razor. The last time Adam and I walked to Cybage we saw the same little business. This time I had to stop and get a picture. The man was happy to let me snap a shot.

House call please!

So ever since we arrived in India Bryce has had this cough. And it didn't seem to be getting better. He is hacking all day and night. I chose to room with Bryce because Adam snores just a little. Anyway, we have heard that India has great doctors here. So I kept asking Bryce if he wanted to see a doctor and he kept shying away from the idea. Well, when we were at lunch with Arun, he said that getting a doctor would be no problem. Bryce was on the edge again, in fact he really didn't want to see a doctor at all. I made my first major executive decision in India, to get Bryce a doctor’s appointment. Arun was very nice to make sure all the arrangements were made. We were thinking that we would have to hop in a car and go to the hospital or doctor’s office or something like that. No not here, not when you are under the Cybage wing. Cybage had the doctor come to the hotel and make a house call. How nice is that! He listened to Bryce's chest and prescribed some medication. So we thought we would again hop in the car and go fill our prescriptions in some pharmacy somewhere. No not here, not when you are under the Cybage wing. Our driver took the prescriptions, filled them and brought them back right to our hotel room. How about a WOW from Jeffery Gitomer? Oh, and did I mention that it was free, Cybage took care of everything.

The gift of the Taj Mahal

When we returned to the office from lunch, Usha and Javed presented us with a couple of really cool gifts. One was a small marble model of the Taj Mahal in a blue velvet box. We had seen these models as we were shopping but none of us bought one. We were excited about the gift. I hope it will survive the plane ride home. They also gave us a Cybage pen and shirt. If I can talk Adam into it, there will be a picture of all three of us in our Cybage shirts coming soon.

We also started meeting with some of the department heads. Today we met with Prachi Bhruguwar, the head of the UI (User Interface) department. It was good to see the other things that Cybage could possibly do for us. The appointment seemed to spark some ideas in both Adam’s and my head. It looks like they have some nice systems in place to help customers with their user experiences.

Lunch with Arun Nathani - Cybage CEO

Today we met with Arun Nathani the CEO of Cybage and Prashant Katikar, one of the Directors. We visited in his beautiful office for awhile and then headed out to lunch. Again, I thought lunch was amazing. We went to Le Meridien hotel. They had a buffet and it was great. They even had some beef. We talked politics and business then came back to the office. Arun has a global mind. My mind is almost always in stuck in the United States and Arun has his sights on the world. I'm sure outsourcing to counties all over the world helps. I learned a few things from Arun. As we talked, I asked him about the future of Cybage. He talked about building a stronger foundation to become a more scalable company. He talked about implementing processes and programs so that each customer has success with Cybage. CirclePix could use some of that advice. We discussed a lot of topics and I believe Arun is a deep thinker. Not only is he very smart and successful, he is a friendly guy. It was a pleasure to get to know him.

Lunch with David Bateman

One of our clients is a company called Property Solutions. David Bateman is their CEO and happened to be in India the same time we were. He has set up a small programming outfit right here in Pune. We did lunch together and then he showed us his set up. It is under construction right now but it looks like it will turn out really nice. They have a great view and a very nice team. Sandy (below) is his General Manager for the office.

Shopping for a Magic Carpet

We are shopping maniacs here. The last couple of nights we have left work and shopped. We found this cool store that has some nice items. Bryce and Adam were looking at some magic carpets. Rouf this the sales guy in the middle. Tyler needs to recruit this guy.

Adam and I were going for the scarves. Some of the material was the softest I’ve ever felt. Expensive but soft.
These guys loved us when we were done. We all spent a lot of money and got some cool things.

Lunch at the Sun & Sand

On Monday one of the directors of Cybage, Amit, treated us to a lunch at The Sun & Sand hotel. The Sun & Sand is a 5 star hotel and serves a wonderful buffet. We had chicken kabobs among other things. The food was great and it was nice to get to know Amit a bit better. When we were looking into outsourcing with Cybage, Amit came to visit with us in Utah. He is one of the top executives at Cybage and treated us well.

This is our team and the area they work in. They have a very nice office and work areas. From left to right - Suchit, Pooja, Sushil and Santosh. Notice the sweet logo.

In the cubicles next to their's is Harshad and Javed our project manager.

Parvati Temple

On Saturday we visited the Parvati Temple. It was a fairly short hike but it was straight up making it a killer for Bryce and me. Adam was quite the trooper busting up the hill like he had a rod in his leg. We saw some kids on the way and some people worshiping in the temple. Below is a short clip of our adventure.

Eating, shopping and sight seeing

Yesterday and today we ate at a couple of good places, checked out the local shops and saw some sights. We have been having a good time on holiday (our days off). We started our day at Mainland China. Great food!

We then headed over to one of the big malls in town to do some shopping. This mall is really for the very wealthy here. It is a Westernized mall with all the big brands. We didn't find many native items here. Although, Adam and Bryce did barter a bit.

As we were shopping today this guy came up to us with his camel and offered us a ride. None of us were brave enough to take a ride.

We did get on the street a little and found some cool things.

Driving around in India

Below are a couple of our experiences while driving in Pune, India. Again, rick shaws and motorcycles are everywhere. Yesterday and today we had a driver named Philemon. He is a great guy. He took us all over the city.

Visiting Aga Khan Palace

Yesterday we visited Aga Khan Palace. The Aga Khan Palace is a national monument of India's freedom movement. The palace is a simple memorial to Gandhi and his life. Below is a video clip of our visit.

Flat Stanly

Adam was asked by one of his sister's students to take Flat Stanly to India and get pictures with him in front of famous places. It is supposed to help the kids learn about interesting countries around the world.

Usha - Our Delivery Manager & Friend

This is Usha. She is our "Delivery Manager" and a very good friend. She is what we would call an account manager. She handles any concerns, builds relationships and helps grow the account. The other day she treated us to lunch at FLAGS. It is a wonderful restaurant with a menu a mile long. We all had an item call the Sizzler. It was a fajita type platter with mounds of food sizzling on it. My platter had chicken kebabs, rice, veggies, potatoes and a very spicy sauce. It was really good. For desert we had a brownie also on a sizzling platter with ice cream on top. When they served it, they drizzled chocolate sauce on top which sizzled on the hot plate. Usha had really taken good care of us. They gave us a phone to use while we are her and well as a driver to take us anywhere we would like to go.

McDonalds in India

So we went to McDonalds today for lunch. On our way to get there we had to go through the Cybage parking garage. Anyway, they have an entire floor dedicated to motorcycle parking. Everyone drives motorcycles here. They are everywhere weaving through traffic like ants attacking a picnic. We had to stop and take a couple of pictures of the parking lot filled with bikes. I’m sure everyone thought the Americans we nuts taking pictures of a parking lot.

McDonalds was interesting. They did not have any hamburgers or really much of anything the US has. It was a pretty watered down menu. They did have the Filet-o-Fish, a chicken sandwich, a veggie burger and of course French fries and Coke. I ordered the Filet. Everything tasted really good. Javed, the team lead, treated us to lunch. He is really a great guy. He is very professional and he knows his stuff. He is going to do a great job leading his team. Adam has a picture of McDonalds but we can't get his pictures off his camera so I will have to add the picture later.
